Cognitive Data Governance

While today's data management practitioners leverage mostly manual processes to establish and maintain data governance work, in the coming years, significant work will be conducted using AI and machine learning tools. In this session I will break down some of the foundational components necessary to enable cognitive data governance.

Fawad Butt is the chief data governance officer and executive director at Kaiser Permanente. He is experienced in successfully developing and maturing information and data management organizations and executing programs designed to enable capabilities around data governance, data quality, master data management, data strategy, data analytics and innovation management.

In his role at Kaiser Permanente, Fawad is responsible for building out a consistent data governance and data quality framework and the associated organizational structures. This includes the definition and rollout of an overall operating model which includes approved data governance policies, procedures, and standards; a comprehensive data stewardship model; identification of key data domains; selection of key tools and technologies and the creation and tracking of key business and data metrics. 

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Fawad spent 20 years helping technology and financial services companies including Northern Trust Corporation, TIAA-CREF, TD Bank, Sun Microsystems, and SGI/Cray Research.

Fawad holds a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology with a focus on Microprocessor Design from East West University.
